It’s that time of the year again where the flu virus becomes more and more common. According to the Indiana State Department of Health, there have been three deaths this season caused by a flu-like illness in Indiana. Are you taking the proper precautions to avoid the flu or spreading it to others? Here are some helpful tips and resources:
Keep you and your family’s flu shots/vaccinations up to date
The CDC recommends 2 doses in a single flu season (October-May) for children between six months to eight years of age and one dose each flu season for everyone else. See source here.
In Fort Wayne, the Allen County Health Department is a good resource to not only get shots/vaccinations, but to learn more about them also.
Carry hand sanitizer and tissues around with you.
Use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough.
Wash your hands often.
Germs are more likely to spread when you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, so avoid doing so.
Clean & sanitize your environment.
Cleaning and disinfectant in high traffic areas in your home, washing your sheets and clothes once a week, or even just cleaning your electronics can be beneficial in keeping your surroundings germ free.
Avoid people who are sick.
In the case you do get sick, stay home to prevent infecting others.
